The new release from The DARK SHADOWS from Sydney, Australia on Halb-7-Records is available. After the haunting atmospherics of the ‘Invisible’ EP, ’11:11’ sees the band develop this theme and explore a fresh, sharp edged new sound, combined with post-punk noir wave.
The new 11:11 EP features 6 new tracks including an English version of Swiss cult wave band Grauzone’s song ‘Eisbär’ (Ice Bear). A limited edition German version of the song will be released in Europe through, Halb-7 Records, Germany.
‘11:11’, also sees one of the band’s dynamic live songs, ‘Dark Shadow’ come to light. Having been a feature part of the live set since the group emerged, they finally feel this take of the song has captured the mood and energy of their live performance.
This is a limited Edition of 666. The CD comes in a costly produced “dark-colored” Digi-File including a 2-sided Booklet with pictures and all song texts. !! First 66 of them come as special pack, handnumbered & with nice postcard of the Band.
2011 has already been an eventful year for The Dark Shadows who were invited to support Scottish indie rockers Glasvegas on their Splendour In The Grass sideshow in Sydney. They also supported new-wave punk legend, Hugh Cornwell from The Stranglers on his Australia wide tour as well as ‘The HorrorPops’ (Denmark) and Oz psycho metal punk legends The Fireballs on their ‘Psychotic Music For Neurotic People Tour’ as well as an appearance at Brisbane’s ‘Dead of Winter Festival’. 11:11 EP SONG DESCRIPTIONS
Written in The Snow
Written in The Snow is about following your heart, taking chances and embracing the moment that is.
“Schau in Dein Herz und Du wirst klarer sehn…”
“Look into your heart and clearer you'll see…”
Blame
Blame is a little less straightforward than the title suggests… mix of regret, sorrow and bracing oneself for what lies ahead. It’s easy to point the finger but remember the one it points toward is looking right back up the arm at you. This song was a collaboration with a friend of ours, Eli Harris from Sydney band The Double Crosses.
Dark Shadow
Perversion of power through isolation… this is not a pretty song and it draws on shadows of the past but through the relief of music, one has the strength to step into the light and move forward…
Line of Sight…
Blurred visions… we blur the edges… in our hearts we know what’s right but find it hard to walk away…
Cold Rain
Being an outsider. Looking through that misty window… We want what we can’t have… just out of reach, the grass appears greener on the other side… But is it?
Eisbär
First came across this great track by 80’s Swiss wave band Grauzone on tour in Germany and totally fell in love with it… everything about the original recording is perfect so I was pretty nervous about doing a version but the song is so infectious and we had so much fun laying it down. We love a good challenge of which it definitely was getting my tongue around the Deutsch lyrics! It was an interesting experiment singing in another language… there was more freedom with the voice, which felt more like part of the instrumentation. German is such a fantastic language for music, it offers so many great sounds. For fun we translated the lyrics and did an English interpretation as well.
